The Psychedelic Furs guitarist John Ashton joins Magic Wands on new track

Magic Wands and John Ashton have released a collaborative single titled ‘Sacred Mirrors’. The track originated as an instrumental composition by Ashton, which was sent to the Los Angeles-based duo of Dexy Valentine and Chris Valentine. The final version features additional guitar, keyboards, percussion, and vocals recorded by the band, with Chris Valentine handling production and mixing duties.

The collaboration follows the release of the Magic Wands sixth studio album, Cascades, in October 2025. Ashton initiated contact with the group after hearing their recent material and discussing their work during an interview on the Sticky Jazz podcast. The lyrical content of ‘Sacred Mirrors’, written by Dexy Valentine, focuses on celestial imagery and themes of reflection, moving away from the darker tonal shifts present on the band’s previous two LPs, Switch and Cascades.

John Ashton was a member of The Psychedelic Furs from 1980 to 1991, contributing guitar to their first seven studio albums. During the band’s initial hiatus, he moved into production, overseeing recordings for Marianne Faithfull and The Sisters of Mercy, including the 1982 single ‘Alice’. He rejoined The Psychedelic Furs upon their reformation in 2000, remaining with the lineup for eight years. In 2016, he released a solo album under the name Satellite Paradiso.

Magic Wands formed in Nashville before relocating to Los Angeles. The core lineup consists of Dexy Valentine and Chris Valentine. Since their 2012 debut album, Aloha Moon, the group has released a series of records including Jupiter, Abrakadabra, Illuminate, and Switch. Their instrumentation typically incorporates melodic guitar textures, synthesizers, and electronic percussion. Their recent singles include ‘Hide’, ‘Armour’, and ‘Across The Water’.
