New Mclusky video Chekhov’s Guns arrives before May album release

Mclusky released the video for “Chekhov’s Guns” on April 9, 2025, continuing their collaboration with director Remy Lamont. The song is part of the rollout leading to the release of The World is Still Here and So Are We, which will be available on May 9 via Ipecac Recordings.

The band has issued three videos in advance of the album’s release. Alongside “Chekhov’s Guns,” they previously published “People Person,” which features a storyline centered around office workers, and “Way of the Exploding Dickhead,” which contains a satirical visual narrative. According to guitarist and vocalist Andrew Falkous, the lyrics in “Chekhov’s Guns” focus on brevity and also address the subject of death. Read our interview with mclusky.

The World is Still Here and So Are We marks the fourth official studio album by Mclusky and their first release in two decades. The band briefly performed under a modified name out of respect for past members but has since reverted to the original. The album includes lyrics described by the band as varying in theme and tone, with a preference for open-ended subject matter. It will be distributed in several formats, including limited-edition vinyl (marble, clear, standard blue, and 180g black), CD, and digital.

Mclusky formed in Cardiff, Wales in the late 1990s. Their lineup includes Andrew Falkous (guitar, vocals), Damien Sayell (bass, vocals), and Jack Egglestone (drums, vocals, percussion). The group released three albums during their initial period of activity: My Pain and Sadness is More Sad and Painful Than Yours (2000), Mclusky Do Dallas (2002), and The Difference Between Me and You is That I’m Not on Fire (2004). After disbanding in 2005, they reformed in 2019. Since then, they have returned to live performance and studio recording, culminating in the forthcoming release of their fourth album via Ipecac Recordings.
