Link Meanie expands the Melbourne project to include members of Even and Snapshot for a collaborative Tote Hotel show

The Melbourne pop project Bagful of Beez, initiated by Link Meanie (born Lindsay McLennan), has transitioned from a solo operation into a four-piece band. The group has released a single and video titled “Odd Couple” through the labels Cheersquad Records & Tapes and Desert Highways. The track follows a prior single, “Fever Dream,” and both are selected from an upcoming album.

Link Meanie, who formed the Melbourne punk rock band The Meanies in 1988 as vocalist and songwriter, originally ran the project alone using electronic backing tracks. According to the project’s background, these backing tracks regularly glitched during performances. The technical errors continued after drummer Matt Cotter of the band Even was initially brought into the lineup. The project has since eliminated the tracking elements by recruiting Meghan Maike of Meghan Maike and the Cactus Flowers alongside Chip Wardale, whose previous associations include Snapshot and Rat Kangaroo. Link Meanie stated that having more band members instead of glitching tracks is handy for gang fights.

A double single launch is scheduled for Thursday, July 16, upstairs at the Tote HotelTote Hotel, a live music venue located in the Collingwood suburb of Melbourne. Bagful of Beez will perform alongside Heir To The Squandered Millions, a new band fronted by Link Meanie‘s brother, Ross McLennan, a founding member of the indie pop band Snout from 1991 to 2002 and collaborated with Link Meanie on a lo-fi album under the name Meuscram in 1995. The Heir To The Squandered Millions single, “Here They Come Again,” was released one day prior to the performance announcement.
