Chris Shaw and Orville Neeley reunite for Memo PST debut

Memo PST surfaced in Los Angeles in 2022. The project reunites Orville Neeley and Chris Shaw, whose respective past work includes Bad Sports, OBN IIIs, Ex-Cult, and Vile Nation. Initially issuing a self-recorded cassette demo and booking a short run of California dates, the group entered Discount Mirrors, a studio co-owned by John Dwyer and Eric Bauer, to record their first full-length in May 2023.

The album was tracked over five days and contains twelve tracks. Neeley was responsible for the music and arrangements, while Shaw contributed vocals and lyrics. The material aligns with the stripped, blunt characteristics associated with early Los Angeles punk recordings, intentionally sidestepping broader production trends.

Released by In The Red Records, the debut includes “I Used To Be A Pretty Boy,” which was issued as a single and sold out shortly after release. The cover image, shot behind Worship, a retail space with roots in the LA punk circuit, frames the record’s presentation — stark, minimal, and aligned with a specific subset of punk that predates the current algorithmic branding cycles.

The lineup is completed by Danny Clodfelter, a longtime participant in LA’s punk infrastructure, on bass, and Jackson Todd, previously linked to surf punk activity in San Clemente, on drums.

Chris Shaw, originally based in Memphis, was the vocalist for Ex-Cult, a band that released material on Goner Records and toured extensively across the US and Europe. Orville Neeley, from Texas, has released material under multiple projects, including OBN IIIs, with albums out via Tic Tac Totally, Matador, and 12XU, and is also involved in studio engineering and production. Both relocated to Los Angeles prior to forming Memo PST.
