Mess Esque release third album and schedule tour dates with Bonnie Prince Billy
Mess Esque, the collaboration between Helen Franzmann and Mick Turner, has released a new video for the track “Crow’s Ash Tree”, taken from their third album Jay Marie, Comfort Me, which is now available. The duo is scheduled to perform across Europe in May 2025, appearing alongside Bonnie “Prince” Billy at several venues.

The video for “Crow’s Ash Tree” was directed by Denny Ryan. The masks worn in the video were created by Sofia Carroll, Helen Franzmann’s niece. The track features guitar work by Mick Turner and vocals by Helen Franzmann.
The album Jay Marie, Comfort Me is the third release by Mess Esque. Their upcoming tour includes concerts in Belgium, the Netherlands, and France.

Helen Franzmann is a Brisbane-based musician previously active under the solo moniker McKisko. Her work is characterized by the use of piano and voice, often incorporating minimalist structures and ambient textures. She has been active in the Australian independent music scene since the 2000s. Her solo releases include albums such as Glorio (2009) and To Myself (2015). In Mess Esque, she collaborates with Mick Turner, contributing vocals and lyrics.
Mick Turner is a Melbourne-based guitarist and visual artist. He is a founding member of the instrumental group Dirty Three, alongside Warren Ellis and Jim White. Turner’s solo work includes albums such as Tren Phantasma and Don’t Tell the Driver, released on Drag City. He has also collaborated with artists including Cat Power and Bonnie “Prince” Billy. In addition to music, he is active as a painter and illustrator.
