Alexander Tucker’s electronic project returns with new collaborations and modular constructions

Microcorps—the electronic alias of Alexander Tucker—announces Clear Vortex Chamber, out 19 September 2025 via Downwards Records. The album follows his 2021 full-length XMIT (Alter Records) and the Macrocorpse cassette (The Tapeworm) released in 2024.

Built around modular synthesis, processed voice, cello and bass guitar samples, the record involves contributions from Justin K Broadrick (Godflesh, Jesu, JK Flesh), Phew, Regis (Sandwell District, British Murder Boys), Karl D’Silva, Elvin Brandhi, and JJOWDY. Tucker reworked the album after scrapping an earlier version, citing input from Karl O’Connor (Regis), Freddy Lomas (Kinn), and James Ginzburg (Emptyset) during the rebuilding process.

The album’s structure hinges on triggered acoustic fragments—bowed and struck strings—set against digitally manipulated vocals and percussion. Tucker’s voice appears throughout the release, alongside JJOWDY’s more restrained vocal contributions. On FEDBCK, Broadrick contributes guitar textures and distorted vocal elements. Phew’s electronics and organ tones surface on SANSU. Regis delivers vocal material on ZONA, and D’Silva’s saxophone is heard on FEBCK 2. The album closes with Elvin Brandhi on MALLETS, adding vocal edits and cut-up phrasing.

Tucker’s interest in visual composition carries over from his work in fine art and comics, informing the album’s visual language and cover art, which combines hand-drawn and digitally blurred elements.

Clear Vortex Chamber will be presented live at All Is Joy, Soho, on 17 July as part of the Oblique_Futures Soho Series. Microcorps is also scheduled to support Cabaret Voltaire at Brighton’s ACCA on 22 November.

Alexander Tucker is a British musician and visual artist active since the late 1990s. Initially associated with post-hardcore and experimental rock, he shifted toward solo work focused on tape loops, cello, electronics, and processed voice. He has released multiple solo albums on ATP Recordings and Thrill Jockey and is a member of Grumbling Fur, a duo with Daniel O’Sullivan. Tucker’s work frequently intersects with visual media, including comic art and installation. Under the name Microcorps, he develops electronic compositions oriented around modular synthesis, voice deconstruction, and acoustic-electronic interfaces.
