The album Moon Is Doom Backwards by Sly & The Family Drone is set for release through Human Worth on 15 November 2024, with a limited-edition pressing of 300 copies in “Glistening Green” vinyl. This special edition will include custom artwork by the band’s drummer and electronic artist, Kaz Buckland, and an outer sleeve with screen-printed details. A portion of the sales will support the charity Melanoma UK.
Recorded in September 2021 at Larkins Farm, Moon Is Doom Backwards reflects an intentional departure towards a restrained and atmospheric sound. The album, produced by Alex Bonney and band member Matt Cargill, consists of seven tracks that interweave minimal percussion, subdued electronics, and ambient textures, creating a deliberate, tense sonic landscape. The result contrasts lengthy, quiet intervals with bursts of intense, layered sound, balancing contemplative pauses with heavy rhythmic passages.

Sly & The Family Drone includes James Allsopp on reeds and bass clarinet, Kaz Buckland on drums, electronics, and reeds, Matt Cargill on electronics, voice, and percussion, Ed Dudley on electronics and voice, and Will Glaser on drums and electronics. The album’s recording, mixing, and mastering were handled by Alex Bonney.
