Turtle Skull to Release New Album Being Here on May 23, 2025
The Australian band Turtle Skull is set to release their third album, Being Here, on May 23, 2025, through Art As Catharsis (Australia/New Zealand) and Copper Feast Records (United Kingdom/Europe). Description: Turtle Skull releases their third album Being Here on May 23 2025 through Art As Catharsis and Copper Feast Records featuring a new lineup and live recording approach.
Being Here was recorded live at NoWave Studio in Mullumbimby, Australia, with minimal post-production adjustments. The band opted for a direct and instinct-driven process, avoiding excessive layering or studio effects. Drummer Charlie Gradon described the approach as prioritizing spontaneous performance over technical refinement. The album’s only overdubs were for the vocals, with the band handling production and mixing independently.
The new album includes contributions from Ally Gradon, who introduced synthesizers to the band’s sound. The result blends elements of neo-psychedelia, doom rock, and alternative pop, incorporating influences from Black Moth Super Rainbow, Idles, and Causa Sui, along with aspects of Spiritualized and The Flaming Lips.
The first single from the album, Into the Sun, originated from older riffs developed by Charlie Gradon and expanded upon by the band. The lyrics were inspired by a wedding attended by some of the members, reflecting on themes of routine, connection, and the significance of both mundane and profound experiences.
Lyrically, Being Here explores topics such as the impact of social media and the passage of time while emphasizing themes of connection and presence. The band describes the title as embodying a perspective of embracing life’s complexities.
Turtle Skull has performed at festivals including Camp A Low Hum (New Zealand), The Gumball (New South Wales), Vivid (New South Wales), and Ninchfest (Victoria). They have also supported international acts such as Frankie and the Witch Fingers, Earthless, and Stonefield. The band is scheduled to perform on March 7, 2025, at the Bergy Bandroom in Melbourne as part of the Brunswick Music Festival, with additional tour dates expected later in the year.
Turtle Skull was formed in Australia and is known for combining elements of psychedelic rock, doom, and alternative pop. Their self-titled debut album was released in 2018, followed by Monoliths in 2020. The band’s sound incorporates heavy, atmospheric instrumentation and melodic elements.
