Fragmented Electronics and Vocal Experiments Shape Oï les Ox’s Second Album
Paris-based visual artist and composer Aude Van Wyller, known by her stage name Oï les Ox, has announced her second album, titled AI les Axes. The album will be released on 25 October 2024 in CD and digital formats through the label Constructive. The release follows her 2020 debut album Crooner qui coule sous les clous, which was published by The Death of Rave and Primordial Void.

AI les Axes consists of seven tracks that delve into themes surrounding artificial intelligence, technological breakdown, and identity dissolution. The album incorporates a variety of sound elements, including fragmented electronics, vocal experimentation, and unconventional sound sources. Van Wyller’s approach to the project involved spontaneous, one-take compositions, contrasting with the methodical editing process used in her previous works. This technique creates a sense of continuous development within the music, reflecting the uncertainty and fluidity of identity in a tech-centric world.
The album integrates multiple sound elements, such as oscillating synthesizers, disjointed vocalizations, and ambient noise, to create a complex soundscape. The compositions often incorporate non-musical sound cues, including phone notifications and acoustic objects. The album’s focus on instability is reinforced by its unpredictable structure, with tracks seamlessly blending through shifting transitions and altered rhythms.
Van Wyller describes the album as a reflection on the dissolution of boundaries, where the listener can experience a distorted sense of time and identity. Throughout AI les Axes, the artist presents a fragmented self, with layers of artificial and manipulated voices, underscoring the loss of individuality in a technologically saturated environment.
To celebrate the album release, Oï les Ox will make her live debut in the UK at Café OTO in London on 16 October 2024. She will perform alongside a trio featuring Tujiko Noriko, Adrian Corker, and George Barton (GBSR), with additional performances by violinist Aisha Orazbayeva and pianist Ben Smith. This event also marks the 10th anniversary of Constructive’s sister label, SN Variations.

The mixing of the album was handled by Apulati Bien and Oï les Ox. The album cover was generated using DALL-E, with artwork based on a prompt by Raphaël Schwarz, and the final design was completed by Van Wyller.
About Aude Van Wyller:
Aude Van Wyller, born in 1991, is a Parisian visual artist and composer. Her works span sound poetry, electronic music, and multi-channel installations. She has been involved in the creation of audio-visual projects, including collaborations with other artists. In 2020, she released her debut album Crooner qui coule sous les clous, followed by the EP Terrain Transparent, which came out on K-Rut/Kraak Records later that year.
Van Wyller has also composed soundtracks for experimental films, such as Weather of Thresholds (2021) by Daniel Peñaranda and Viewable Only from a Seat (2023) by Lennert Lefever. Her artistic practice frequently involves sound installations and performances in various unconventional spaces, such as amphitheaters and concert halls.
She has held residencies at several institutions, including La Muse en Circuit (Paris), Le Botanique and Les Ateliers Claus (Brussels), and Hetbos (Antwerp). Her work has been showcased at various festivals and venues, including Heart of Noise (Innsbruck, 2021), Schiev Festival (Brussels, 2022), Sonic Protest Festival (Paris, 2023), and Arkaoda (Berlin, 2023). She was also part of the Shape+ artists roster for 2022–2023, a project supported by the European Union’s Creative Europe program.
