Description: Laibach’s Opus Dei Revisited: A deep dive into the remastered industrial classic that redefined pop and power.

The first disc of the album features a complete reworking of the original tracks by LAIBACH. These updated versions were developed and refined during the band’s ongoing Opus Dei Revisited tour, which began earlier this year. The second disc includes remixes by Rico Conning, who previously worked on the 1987 release. Conning revisited the original master tapes, reinterpreting the tracks with a fresh perspective while maintaining key elements from the original.

The original Opus Dei album was LAIBACH’s first release with Mute Records was a transformative moment in the band’s career, expanding their reach beyond Eastern Europe. The album included reworked versions of pop songs such as Leben heißt Leben, a German-language adaptation of Opus’ Live is Life, which will be featured again on the Opus Dei Revisited release.

LAIBACH was formed in 1980 in the industrial town of Trbovlje, Yugoslavia (now Slovenia), during a period of political and social upheaval following the death of Josip Broz Tito. Initially, the group faced censorship and was banned in Yugoslavia due to their controversial performances and imagery. However, they gained recognition across Europe, particularly after embarking on the Occupied Europe Tour, which spanned both Eastern and Western Bloc countries.

In addition to their extensive discography, LAIBACH has engaged in various interdisciplinary projects, including film, theater, and performance art. The group’s 2015 performances in North Korea were the subject of a 2017 documentary, and in recent years they have continued to work on politically charged and artistically ambitious projects. In 2022, they released Wir sind das Volk (ein Musical aus Deutschland), based on the writings of German playwright Heiner Müller. Their upcoming work includes a planned performance in Tehran of the original symphonic composition Alamut, created in collaboration with Iranian musicians and composers.

Opus Dei Revisited is a companion piece to the previously released Opus Dei (Remastered), which was made available in May 2024.
