Description: Pefkin’s The Rescoring is an album of transformation, written by Gayle Brogan during a personal and environmental shift. Out on 20 November 2024.
The Rescoring is a three-track album written in the autumn of 2023, during a time of significant personal transition for Brogan, including her relocation from Glasgow to Sheffield. This release explores the theme of transformation, a central concept across the album’s composition.
The work features Brogan utilizing a limited set of instruments, including viola, which she had not previously played, along with synthesizer and voice. Each track was recorded in a single take, with the aim of capturing various emotional states during her move. The first track reflects on the landscape of Glasgow, the second focuses on her new environment in Sheffield, while the third explores the broader concept of change, examining themes such as seasonal shifts, sacred yew trees, and woodland edges.
