Within The Depths Of Silence And Phormations returns on vinyl and CD

Rune Serpent Europa will issue a new edition of raison d’être’s Within The Depths Of Silence And Phormations on 21 May 2025. Originally recorded in 1995 and released by Cold Meat Industry, the album is being reissued to mark its 30th anniversary. The release will be distributed worldwide in collaboration with The Circle Music. For the first time, the album will appear on vinyl, in two limited variants, as well as a triple CD edition.

The reissue includes an updated mix of the original album, additional material, and a remaster of the 1995 recording. The tracklist remains unchanged from the original Cold Meat Industry release, with compositions such as “Sephiroth”, “Inner Depths of Sadness” and “Of Dying Relics” arranged across four LP sides.

The vinyl edition is split into two versions of 300 hand-numbered copies each: one on standard black vinyl, the other on a gold and black marbled variant. Both are issued in gatefold sleeves. A “Sublime Edition” triple CD version, limited to 500 numbered copies, includes alternate masters and unreleased tracks.

raison d’être is the project of Peter Andersson, a Swedish composer who began working under the name in 1991. The moniker, taken from the French philosophical term, has been the main vehicle for his work in dark ambient, industrial, and experimental music. Andersson’s recordings often incorporate processed field recordings, chant samples, drones, and acoustic instrumentation. Alongside raison d’être, Andersson has issued material under several aliases, including Atomine Elektrine, Stratvm Terror, Panzar, and Bocksholm, and has released on labels such as Cold Meat Industry, Old Europa Cafe, Yantra Atmospheres, and Transgredient Records.

Within The Depths Of Silence And Phormations was the third full-length release under the raison d’être name. It followed Prospectus I (1993) and Enthraled By The Wind Of Lonelienes (1994), and preceded In Sadness, Silence and Solitude (1997). The album was part of the broader output of Cold Meat Industry in the 1990s, which included material from artists such as Brighter Death Now, Deutsch Nepal, and Arcana. The label ceased activity in 2014.
