The Breton producer presents a rework of her track ‘Morwreg’ by the Welsh-Cornish artist

Breton producer QUINQUIS, the name used by Émilie Quinquis, has released a remix of her track ‘Morwreg’ by the Welsh-Cornish artist Gwenno. The release occurs while QUINQUIS is currently on a UK tour supporting Gwenno. The original version of ‘Morwreg’ is included on the QUINQUIS album eor, issued by Mute.

The two artists met during a mutual interview earlier in the year. Both utilize Celtic languages in their music; QUINQUIS uses Breton, and Gwenno uses Cornish and Welsh. A reciprocal remix is anticipated, with QUINQUIS set to rework a track from Gwenno‘s album Utopia, which was released on Heavenly Recordings.

This new ‘Morwreg’ remix is the first track taken from a forthcoming QUINQUIS remix EP. The EP is scheduled for release on 10 December via Mute.

Émilie Quinquis described the remix as “the remembrance of a long night, recollecting the pieces of a relationship that has broken down on the floor, while the sun is coming up.” She stated the track “keeps asking ‘what do you keep from me when your boat is leaving?’, just as the obsession for a lost love would run in circles into your mind.”

Émilie Quinquis lives on Ushant Island, known as Eusa in Breton, a six-square-mile landmass off the Brittany coast. She previously recorded music under the name Tiny Feet. eor is her first full-length album released as QUINQUIS. Her past work includes collaborations with Yann Tiersen, including contributions to his 2016 album Eusa, which was based on field recordings from the island.

The album eor incorporates narratives concerning mermaids, informed by time Quinquis spent sailing solo from Ushant. The album features ‘Inkanuko’, a track with Desire Marea that combines Zulu and Breton languages. Other tracks include ‘Blaz an holen’ featuring Cerys Hafana, and ‘Dec’h’. The video for ‘Dec’h’, directed by Vanessa Le Reste, documents a group of drag artists visiting Ushant.
