Robert Poss, guitarist, composer, and producer, has released Drones, Songs, and Fairy Dust via Trace Elements Records, a label he co-founded in the early 1980s. The material was performed, recorded, and mixed by Poss at Trace Elements Studios in New York and in Chestnut Hill, Pennsylvania.

The album includes a set of recent compositions structured around electric guitar, feedback systems, loop manipulation, and amplification-based textures. The tracks shift between instrumental minimalism, processed drones, and saturated rock structures, including some with vocals. The pieces are arranged without adherence to a single genre, alternating between rhythmic compositions and static tonal environments.
Poss has maintained a continuous interest in multi-guitar arrangements, pitch density, and extended sonic duration since the early 1980s. He began releasing solo and collaborative works on Trace Elements during that period, including recordings with composer Rhys Chatham. He later co-founded Band of Susans in 1986 with Susan Stenger, operating as the group’s principal composer and guitarist through six albums and multiple EPs before the band’s dissolution in 1996. One of the band’s early line-ups briefly included Page Hamilton, who later formed Helmet, and was interviewed for Retrofuturista.
His guitar work has appeared on recordings by Nina Canal, Ben Neill, and David Dramm, among others. He has also collaborated with Bruce Gilbert of Wire and participated in ensemble performances with artists including Glenn Branca and Nona Hendryx.
In solo work, Poss has continued to release guitar-based compositions focused on amplification as compositional material, including Distortion Is Truth (2002) and Frozen Flowers Curse The Day (2010). Drones Songs and Fairy Dust follows this trajectory with no visible deviation in instrumentation or production method, relying again on self-engineered sessions and released via his longstanding label.
