End Beginnings by Sandwell District set for release via The Point of Departure
The techno collective Sandwell District, composed of Karl O’Connor (Regis) and David Sumner (Function), has announced the release of their new album, End Beginnings. The album will be available on 28 March 2025 via The Point of Departure. This marks their first collaborative effort since their 2010 album Feed-Forward.

The album’s first track, “Hidden,” has been made available, offering a preview of the project. O’Connor and Sumner worked on End Beginnings from separate locations in London and Berlin, incorporating contributions from collaborators including Simon Shreeve, Mika Hallbäck (Rivet), Seth Horvitz (Rrose), and Sarah Kranz (Sarah Wreath).
End Beginnings reflects influences from underground techno and 80s European industrial electro, alongside elements reminiscent of Detroit’s Motor City sound. While its core is rooted in dancefloor energy, the album also aims to provide a compelling home listening experience.
The project honors the late Juan Mendez (Silent Servant), a member of the Sandwell District collective, who passed away in early 2024. Mendez’s artistic contributions, including visuals and artwork, were integral to Sandwell District. The album title, End Beginnings, derives from an unfinished piece Mendez had planned as the cover art.
The decision to reunite as Sandwell District was influenced by a personal connection O’Connor formed with the late Mark Lanegan, who encouraged him to revisit the project. Despite past disagreements, O’Connor and Sumner reconciled to collaborate on this release, prioritizing the collective’s vision over individual differences.
End Beginnings will be released through The Point of Departure, with press materials credited to Steve Gullick.
