The new album by Sextile features personal themes and electronics-driven sound

Sextile, the Los Angeles-based duo formed by Melissa Scaduto and Brady Keehn, will release their upcoming album yes, please. on May 2, 2025 through Sacred Bones Records. The release follows their 2023 full-length Push, also issued via Sacred Bones. The new album features contributions from Jehnny Beth and Izzy Glaudini of Automatic.

The record combines electronic dance elements with autobiographical and socially focused lyrics. Tracks on yes, please. address a range of subjects, including the U.S. healthcare system, reproductive rights, education, and artificial intelligence. The song “Hospital” recounts Scaduto’s hospitalization following an accident that left her in a state-run nursing home in New York, while “Soggy Newports,” originally written in 2011, references her experience on Roosevelt Island. Other songs such as “Resist,” “Freak Eyes,” and “Penny Rose” examine broader social concerns. “Push-ups,” featuring Jehnny Beth, incorporates rave and techno elements, while “Kids” features guest vocals from Izzy Glaudini.

The album includes stylistic influences ranging from electroclash, no wave, and hardstyle, with recurring use of synthesizers, bass-heavy production, and percussive electronics. Tracks such as “Women Respond to Bass,” “Freak Eyes,” “Rearrange,” and “S is For” reflect the group’s electronic direction, with lyrical contributions from both members. The record was created following a period of personal and professional change for the band, who returned from a hiatus in 2022.

Sextile was originally formed after Scaduto, raised in New York, and Keehn, from Virginia, met in New York City before relocating to Los Angeles. Their debut album A Thousand Hands was released in 2015, followed by Albeit Living in 2017 and the 3 EP in 2018. The group’s sound initially combined post-punk with synthesizer-driven elements. After the death of original guitarist and synth player Eddie Wuebben in October 2019, the group entered a hiatus. Upon their return, former bassist Cameron Michel joined the band on guitar and synths.

To promote the new album, Sextile will perform several live shows across North America and Europe. These include a DJ set at The Crocodile in Seattle on March 1 and full-band performances at venues such as Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles and Paradiso Upstairs in Amsterdam. The tour also includes appearances at festivals such as Wide Awake Festival in London, Dot to Dot Festival in Bristol and Nottingham, Art Rock Festival in Saint-Brieuc, and Rock Werchter in Belgium. Select North American dates are part of a tour with Molchat Doma.
