Alexandre Degorgue’s YOKE focuses on layered textures and sonic depth

Alexandre Degorgue, operating under the moniker YOKE, has been developing dense and immersive sonic environments since 2018. Originating from the French Alps, Degorgue’s work navigates between post-industrial soundscapes and noise-infused ambient, constructed through electro-acoustic processes and modular synthesizers. His compositions are characterized by processed field recordings, tension-driven drones, and layered feedback, constructing auditory spaces that explore the interactions of texture and temporality.

Degorgue’s creative output spans albums, soundtracks, and installations. His latest release, Sur le fragment de ce qu’il reste à sauver, issued in February 2024 as a tape, continues his engagement with sonic density and experimental structure. Previous works include the Posture EP (2020) for the label LARMES and the 2019 tape Immorale Emotion. Each release reflects a meticulous construction of sound elements, drawing from a palette of organic and mechanical sources.

YOKE’s involvement extends into sound design for visual media and multi-channel audio installations. His contributions include the 5.1 multichannel soundtrack Panoptique for Nous voulons la lune, presented at Théâtre du Galpon in Geneva in March 2023, and the exhibition sound design Noeud dans la Broussaille (December 2022). In 2022, Degorgue composed the soundtrack for Under the Midnight Sun, a short film by M. Faivre. Other projects include Lucarne, created with J.B. Godefroy for the DafTivi Coronafest in 2020.

Degorgue has also engaged in collaborative projects, contributing to compilations and joint releases. These include the 2021 mixtape ANTHEM XXXII for И O C V L T, a split tape Transit (2020) with Canadian artist Saenger, and the track Emergence with MondKobold (2020). His involvement in the Shedding Skin compilation for LARMES (2020) and the Process compilation for Tombeau des Muses (2020) further illustrates his engagement with the experimental music community.

Degorgue is also the founder of Radiation, an association based in Chambéry dedicated to promoting experimental music.
