Sour Tongue announce Final Girl EP with new track
Sour Tongue began during the early months of 2020 in Los Angeles, formed by Satori Marill and John Murphy. The lineup eventually solidified into a five-piece operating at the overlap of alternative rock, grunge, and riot grrrl. Their recordings and performances often fluctuate between abrasive punk, rhythmic detours, and tonal shifts bordering on parody, without settling into a fixed aesthetic.

Label: Metropolis Records
Description: Sour Tongue release new single I Thought You Liked Me on 18 July 2025 via Metropolis Records, ahead of the Final Girl EP.
The group has released four singles and one EP since 2020. A US tour with KMFDM introduced them to audiences beyond their home base, placing them adjacent to a longstanding industrial rock circuit without strictly adhering to its musical codes. Their latest track, I Thought You Liked Me!, arrives via Metropolis Records and pushes into overtly melodic territory. Marill has described the song’s lyrics as stemming from emotional retaliation, specifically in the context of manipulated intimacy. The narration is deliberately inconsistent—assertive on the surface, while signalling hesitation and internalised guilt underneath.
The track is part of an upcoming EP titled Final Girl, framed as a sequence of four pieces addressing personal loss, betrayal, and residual affection. Satori Marill is a vocalist and writer originally based in the San Fernando Valley. Prior to forming Sour Tongue, she was involved in local theatre and zine-making circles. John Murphy played in several short-lived hardcore bands in Southern California throughout the 2010s. The band’s other members have backgrounds in experimental noise, visual arts, and pop songwriting.
