Momentary Movements Of Landscapes by Juha Mäki Patola
Title: Momentary Movements of Landscapes
Artist: Juha Mäki-Patola
Release Date: 2026-04-13
Genres: Ambient, Drone, Electronica, Lo-fi
Label: 130701
Description: Juha Mäki-Patola releases Momentary Movements of Landscapes, his third album and debut on 130701/FatCat Records, built on piano loops and tape processing.

The twelve-track album was built around upright piano and Prophet 10 loops processed through tape echo and reverb, recorded live during the Nordic winter of 2024-2025 in Mäki-Patola‘s Helsinki studio. The sessions began as intensive improvisations over the course of a few weeks, with the recorded material later developed through overdubs of piano, synthesizer, ambient noise, and voice.

Several collaborators contributed to the final record: Jessica Hébert and Frida Mäki-Patola on violin, Tapani Rinne on bass clarinet, and Julia Gjertsen on vocals. Frida Mäki-Patola is the artist’s daughter.

The album’s approach draws from tape loop composition, a lineage Mäki-Patola has cited explicitly. Basinski and 130701 alumni Ian William Craig are among the artists whose work with looped and processed tape material informed the record’s production.

130701 has operated since 2004 as a sublabel of FatCat Records, focused on contemporary classical and ambient composition.
