45-RPM Uncertain pressing features early Dolores O’Riordan vocals

On January 30, 2026, Island / UMe released a remastered edition of Uncertain, the debut EP by The Cranberries. Originally issued in October 1991 through Xeric Records, the four-track recording predates the band’s first studio album, Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can’t We?, by seventeen months. The 2026 version is a numbered, limited 12-inch 45-RPM disc pressed on cranberry-colored vinyl. Estimates suggest the original 1991 pressing was restricted to approximately 5,000 copies.

The EP features the lineup of Dolores O’Riordan on vocals and guitar, Noel Hogan on guitar, Mike Hogan on bass, and Fergal Lawler on drums. Recorded when O’Riordan was 19 years old, the tracks provide a technical document of the band’s transition from their early formation as The Cranberry Saw Us to the iteration that signed with Island Records. The title track, “Uncertain,” is built on shifting musical swells and vocal anchors, while “Nothing Left At All” utilizes a driving percussion section to contrast its lyrical content. “Pathetic Senses” incorporates high soprano backing vocals and power chords, and the closing track, “Them,” was a frequent inclusion in the band’s early live sets in Limerick and London.

The Cranberries formed in Limerick, Ireland, in 1989. Following the departure of original singer Niall Quinn in 1990, the Hogan brothers and Lawler recruited O’Riordan, who subsequently co-wrote the band’s most commercially successful material. Noel Hogan has since worked with producer Flood and formed the musical project Arkitekt, while Fergal Lawler has composed for several independent film projects and recorded under the name The Low Network. Dolores O’Riordan released two solo albums, Are You Listening? (2007) and No Baggage (2009), and was a member of the trio D.A.R.K. with Andy Rourke of The Smiths and Olé Koretsky. The band ceased activity following the release of their eighth and final studio album, In the End, in 2019.
