Tunde Adebimpe releases the single “Drop” and announces the album Thee Black Boltz

Tunde Adebimpe, vocalist of TV on the Radio, has released the single “Drop” along with a video. The track precedes the album Thee Black Boltz, set for release on April 18 via Sub Pop Records. “Drop” was produced by Jahphet Landis, a member of TV on the Radio, and begins with a rhythmic beatbox sequence. The lyrics address themes related to the passage of time and human existence, featuring lines such as: “Will I feel it when I fall? / Restless hours / The ticking of a clock / Over my life / And my life is just a point / On a timeline / And my soul / Is fading tonight.”

Tunde Adebimpe is a musician, singer-songwriter, actor, director, and visual artist.

As a founding member and co-lead vocalist of TV on the Radio, he recorded five studio albums and collaborated with numerous artists. He contributed backing vocals to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs‘ album It’s Blitz! and appeared on tracks by Dragons of Zynth, Atmosphere, Subtle, and Massive Attack. His work also includes collaborations with Tinariwen, Amadou & Mariam, Leftfield, and the group Nevermen, alongside Mike Patton and Doseone. In addition, he contributed to Run The Jewels’ album Run the Jewels 3 and worked on a track for the Grand Theft Auto V soundtrack.

Adebimpe has also pursued acting, with roles in films such as Rachel Getting Married, Marriage Story, Twisters, and Spider-Man: Homecoming. He has appeared in independent films and television series, including Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, Strange Planet, Lazor Wulf, and Tuca & Bertie. His work in animation includes early contributions to MTV’s Celebrity Deathmatch. In 2011, he directed a visual project accompanying Nine Types of Light, the fourth TV on the Radio album.

As a visual artist, Adebimpe has maintained a career in design, illustration, and painting. He has created album artwork, released the art comic Plague Hero, and developed multimedia projects, including A Warm Weather Ghost, commissioned by the Walker Art Center in 2017.

Thee Black Boltz marks Adebimpe’s first solo album, integrating electronic elements and personal themes. He signed with Sub Pop in 2024 to release the project.
