Single “20” arrives via Latenight Weeknight Records ahead of the album “Waiting”

Shoegaze veterans A Shoreline Dream premiere new single at a rapid writing pace

The single “20” premieres today on Retrofuturista, arriving twenty years after A Shoreline Dream’s debut album Avoiding the Consequences. The Colorado postpunk-shoegaze act built the song around the anniversary itself, using it to confront the passage of time, the uncertainty of what comes next, and the sacrifices tied to a life spent making music instead of treating the milestone as an occasion for celebration.

“20” hits hard from the start, a cavernous wall of goth-tinged shoegaze that swallows itself in reverb and refuses to sit still, restless in a way few anniversary songs bother to be.

Ryan Policky and Gabriel Ratliff founded A Shoreline Dream in 2005 in Barnum, Denver, after playing together in Pure Drama and Drop the Fear. Policky mortgaged his own house to launch Latenight Weeknight Records, which released the band’s debut EP and Avoiding the Consequences in 2006. Ratliff later departed; the band has continued since as the duo of Policky, on vocals and production, and guitarist Erik Jeffries, recording at their own Shoreline Studios.

Policky calls the writing of “20” unusually fluid: “The track ’20’ just somehow came together so fluid and was just all my favorite sounds combined into one memory of our sound,” he says, citing a pull toward goth, darkwave and dense walls of guitar.

“20” follows the single “Legacy,” which examined the same twenty-year span through what gets given up in service of a life spent recording and refining the band’s sound. Both lead into Waiting, a nine-track album due October 16 on Latenight Weeknight Records, the band’s second full length of 2026. Policky describes 2026 as his first year of near-constant writing, a run he links partly to recent sessions with Mark Gardener of Ride, which produced five co-written songs.
