A solo project channeling krautrock, drone, dub

Artist: Xeeland
Genres: Ambient, Dub, Experimental Music, Krautrock, Psychedelic Rock
Label: God Unknown Records
Description: XEELAND’s Master Builder, out 18 July via God Unknown Records, channels drone, krautrock and dub in Jason Stoll’s latest solo release.
The new release continues Stoll’s solo output with a collection of long-form tracks based on repetition, low-end friction, and gradually morphing textures. The material draws on structural elements from mid-1970s German minimalism, dub’s spatial dislocation, and post-industrial atmospherics. The title references Yamataka Eye’s 1996 remix of Gong’s “Master Builder,” a track originally written by Daevid Allen and Steve Hillage on the You LP by Gong (1974), itself a reference to architectural metaphysics via Sun Ra. While XEELAND’s Master Builder is not a cover, the reference aligns it within a lineage of sonic deconstruction linked more by methodology than genre.
The material consists of long-form instrumental tracks grounded in repetition, modulation, and analog processing. Certain passages draw on the rigid pulse and rhythmic austerity of NEU!, while others lean toward the more diffuse, layered constructions associated with Harmonia. The influence is structural rather than stylistic, pointing to a method of gradual assembly and displacement.
The record features no guest appearances. All instrumentation, including treated electronics, processed bass, and loop manipulation, was recorded by Stoll. There is no accompanying video work or commissioned artwork announced.
Jason Stoll is based in the UK and is a founding member of God Unknown Records. He has played bass in various bands, including Mugstar, Sex Swing, Cattle, and JAAW (with Andy Cairns, Gavin Miller, and Tom Lacey). Stoll has also collaborated with artists in free-form and noise collectives, and performs in Twin Sister, a duo project with Sam Weaver. His work spans psychedelic rock, noise, post-punk, and improvisation-based formats. God Unknown Records, founded by Stoll in 2013, has released material by artists such as Henry Blacker, Nadine Khouri, and Torpor.
The vinyl release of Master Builder is limited to 300 copies. No tour has been announced.
